IPL drew positive reactions from the rest of the Asia also. In Pakistan, the reception was described as

"massive" The matches were telecast live in GEO Super. The matches also generated interest in Sri Lanka and Bangladesh, despite only one Bangladeshi player being involved. The IPL became a big hit in South Africa due to a large composition of South Asians in their population.Another reason for the success is that the second edition of IPL was hosted at South Africa drawing massive crowds from he country as well as the other countries in the subcontinent.

The IPL did not garner much interest in Australia and New Zealand due to time defferences. However, in recent times the IPL has gained a much larger fan-base among mainly South East Asian students in these two countries although due to the introduction  of Australian and New Zealand players the viewer ship amongst the general public is slowly increasing.

The third season of IPL saw interest rise dramatically in the United Kingdom. This was, in part, due to TV coverage switching to free to view channel. Previous editions of IPL were aired on the now defunct channel Setanta,which entered administration in 2009. James Macloed stated, "We are delighted with the viewing figures of th IPL so far. The ratings for ITV4s coverage have been around seven or eight times those achieved by Setanta last year, and we're delighted to be bringing the competition to a wider audience' Lalit Modi, former Chairman  and Commissioner of IPL also expressed immense satisfaction on the way IPL has been acepted by the British audience. "ITV beats Sky Sports over the weekend in  number of viewers. This is great going.The ITV numbers are double that of rugby league. This is huge by all imaginations. UK figures for viewership on ITV already 10 times that of last year. This is just fantastic news, "he said.

Right then-this is the first of my previews ahead of the mega -hype that is the IPL. I will be starting with teams that i don't really like and end with my favourites 

KKR are easily the flashiest team, but following their first ever match where B-Mac slammed a hundred and BCR collapsed they have spiralled. Downwards, that is.

Team politics and management heaven't been great,really unfortunate for SRK who has provoded the money to buy the best players and coaches. Not the uniform though that;s hideous

Issues:

One would think that with B-Mac and Gaylestorm at the top with much-loved captain saurav Ganguly in the middle, as well as do-it-all Aussie Brad Hodge, and star spinners in Mendis and Murali KKR would be great to go. But as we know, the first two tend to blow hot and cold, and the bowling is asways a letdown. Ishant Sharma is not fit for shorter formats, and going by recent form any format Afarker is well Afarker there's no David Hussey the leading  six hitter in the IPL last year. No More van Wyk either Bringing in completely out of depth Players like Bangar and Akash Chopra wasn't too smart either last year, and Fake IPL Player didn't exactly help team spirit.

GOOD NEWS:

Express paceman Shane Bond has been recruited, though he'll be joining once the ODI's against Oz have been completed. Ganguly is back as captain, where he belongs, Indian players Manoj Tiwary Saha lqbal Abdulla and Dhirag Pathak have definitely improved since last year, and domestic giant Cheteshwar pujara is fit Gbignesh the supersloging allrounder is back from the ICL. KKR now has a dirfferent away kit whooop-de-do

2010 Season

The Super Kings added two new overseas players to their roster: Justin Kemp and Thissara Perera. One of these two will in the empty slot while the other shall serve as a substitute to Andrew Flintoff who has planned to skip this season. Sydney cricketer Doug Bollinger was aslo added to the side to make up for Jacob Oram's absence. The Super Kings also roped in formar ICL cricketer Hemang Badani and local all-rounder Ganapathy.

The Super Kings started their tournament against the defending champions, Deccan Charges, in a home match. They lost he match by 31 runs. The Super kings had a roller-coaster ride throughout the tournament THey did not play their best in the first half of the tournament due to which they lost the maority of the matches they played. But the Super Kings made and admirable comeback by winning 5 of the matches played in the latter half of the season This boosted their Net Run Rate, whch ultimately proved to be the factor leading to their qualification for the semi-finels as three other teams were also tied on points. The Super Kings defeated teh defending  champions Deccan Charges to qualify for the IPL final. The win also assured them a place in the Champions League Twenty20.

The final match of 2010(Chennai Super Kings vs Mumbai Indians ) was played on 25 April 2010  at the DY Patl Stadium. M.S Dhoni (captain-csk) won the toss and elected to bat. Chennai Super kings 168 for 5 at the end of 20 overs Mumbai Indians scored 146 for 9 at end of 20 overs and hence lost the match by 22 runs. Man of the match: Suresh Raina(Chennai super kings) Finally the Chennai Super Kings were crowned teh winners of the Indian Premier League. This is also teh first time an Indian captain won this tournament The first IPL season was won by Rajasthan Royals captained by shane Warne, and second IPL Season was won by the Deccan Charges captained by Adam Gilchrist.

2009 Season

Apart from Adrew Flintoff, Thilan Thushara from Sri Lanka, Georga Bailey from Tasmania and Murali Vijay the Tamil Nadu batsman who played for India in two test matches, and Sudeep Tyagi, who had missed the 2008 season due to injury, returned for the second season which was held in South Africa. IN addition ShadabJakathi of Goa was also added to the team, a left field selection by V.B Chandrasekhar team's Director of Cricketing Operations. Five players Srikanth Anirudha, Sivaramakrishnan Vidyut,Selvam suresh kumar,Abhinav Mukund and Napoleon Einstein were sent back from south Africa t trim the squad. Michael Hussey optede out of the 2009 season however he decided to come back for the semi-finels but was not picked to play. Andrew Flintoff picked up a knee injury and was withdrawn from the tournament and returned to Englad early inthe tournament.

The super Kings played first match of the tournament which they lost to the Mumbai Indians by 19 runs. They won  the second match against the Royal Challengers Bangalore by 92 runs, before losing their nes two mathes. however things took a turn with a five games winning streak for the Super kings, enentually even taking the top spot They entered the semifinals after their sin against Mumbai Indians by 7 wickets, finishing the group stage at second, where they were eliminated by the Royal Challengers Bangalore.

Mathew Hayden was the Orenge cap winner being the leading run scorer n IPL 2009 scoring 572 runs in 12 matches with in an avarage of 52 and strike rate of 144.81 Meanwhile Muttiah Muralitharan had the best economy rate of the tournament (5.22) and was also Chennai's Highest wicket taker (14)

2008 season

During the first player auctions for the inaugural IPL season, conducted in january 208,the Chennai team was able to outbid its competitors to buy current Indian team captain Mahendre Singh Dhoni for $1.5 million, winning the highest bid.

The Super Kings had a solid start to their 2008 IPL Season winning their first 4 matches. However, their top order and bowling attack took a hit after Matthew Haden, Mike Hussey and Jacob Oram left the teeam for international duty. The team's prformance reflected this, as they proceeded to lose their next 3 matches. The batting, although inconsistent, eventually adjusted to the losses of Hayden and Hussey with contrubutions from Dhoni,suresh raina and Albie Morkel. The gap inthe team's bowling left by Oram's departure was eventually filled by athe arrival of Makhaya Ntini and Albie Morkel (both of whom were playing the pro20 domesstic tournament in South Africa during the start of the tournament) and the emergence of Manpreet Gony A win in the final league match against the Deccan Charges ansured their progress into the semi-finels finishinf the group stage at third rank.

The team defeated the Kings XI Punjab in the semifinal by 9 wickets, thus entering the finel, which they lost to Rajasthan Royals by three wickets off the last ball. The Super Kings were the team to post the highest total in the tournament (240 against Kings XI punjab) which was only broken in the 2010 seasonby the Super Kings themselves. Moreover Lakshmipathy Balaji took the first hat-trick of the IPL inth second match against the PUnjab team. The team also won the Fly Kingfisher Fair Play Awards. Suresh raina scored the most runs(421) for chennai while Manpreet gony took most wickets(17)

Krishnamachari Srikkanth, formar captain of Indian Cricket Team, is the brand ambassador for the franchise at present and former Indian opener V.B Chandrasekhar is Chier Selector To gather more suport from local fans actor Vijay chandrashekar and actress Nayanatara were also appointed as ambassadors Nayatara was later removed because she could not attend matches Vijay served as the brand Ambassador till the end of the 2009 season and has since then given up his position due to his other commitments.
